 The
new Mimaki UJF-605C UV printer special ability is printing opaque white
ink at very high resolutions. The head design allows the machines to produce
rich, photographic images and sharp, crisp text in very small sizes. The
printer uses UV-cured inks and incorporates a flash lamp that instantly
cures and dries the ink during the printing process. Furthermore, the
environmentally friendly inks don't release any volatile fumes -- according
to Mimaki, no special venting is required. The inks' major advantage is
that they adhere to virtually any substrate and don't require special
coatings.
The UJF-605C is a flatbed printer that can handle rigid material with
a maximum width of 23.6 in. and length of 27.5 in. In addition, it can
accommodate a media thickness of 1.95 in. or less. The media is securely
held via an integral vacuum table, controlled by a separate box mounted
on the printer, which assures that both very thick and very thin media
are held fast during the printing process.
The printers' seven-color system includes white or colored CMYK-LcLm
and white. The inks are contained in easily replaced 440ml cartridges
(per color). The systems will print onto virtually any substrate, including
polyethylene (PET), polycarbonate, oriented polypropylene (OPP), vinyl,
acrylic, various metals, glass and wood. Ink costs are approximately $195
for 440ml.
Mimaki believes this printer is suitable for designing and printing specialty
items and interior signage. You can easily make changes; the final output
is durable, and the cost per piece can be extremely low. The addition
of the seventh, white color and high resolutions makes these printers
capable of producing images that, until now, were only available via screenprinting
and some thermal-transfer printing.
